Parental Guide: How To Talk to Your Children about Gambling

Parenting, even if it is beautiful is far from easy, especially when it comes to explaining to your children how certain things work in the world. Parents often have trouble having all the big talks with their children, but some conversations are inevitable.

One of those conversations is the one concerning gambling. Even if parents love to play casino games and take advantage of bonuses such as Casino Luck bonus, that doesn’t make a difference. It is easy to explain to your children that there are certain age limitations that will prevent them from gambling, but how to influence them not to attempt to do it secretly?

Recognize the Threats

Often, parents have trouble recognizing all the forms of “gambling” in entertainment usually available to their children. A great number of children will find those in games, videos, commercials and other places. Unfortunately, in some parts of the world, gambling promotion laws are not that strict. Thus, there is a high chance that your child will encounter some sort of gambling promo material.

Prepare for the Big Talk

Having an open conversation with your child could affect their behavior in a positive way and prevent any future gambling issues. Keep in mind that the more you talk the more they will soak in, so promoting your own anti-gambling campaign in your household won’t be a waste of time.

Even if no one could tell you the result of that conversation, you might want to think in advance and prepare for that moment. Once you see that your child is ready to comprehend such information, here’s what you need to pay attention to:

Wait for the Right Moment

Picking the right moment to have a gambling talk with your child won’t be easy. most kids will find the subject boring, they might show disinterest and they might even not understand you. This is why it is important to find the most convenient moment when introducing this one.

Wait until you have their full attention, and avoid moments when they are occupied with other activities. Also, a pretty good moment would be when you notice a video game, commercial or add that promotes gambling. In addition, try to make this conversation as friendly as it can get.

Be the Initiator of This Conversation

If you haven’t had a chance to speak to your child at some young age, make sure that you initiate this conversation in their teen years. Teenage years represent the age when your child is most susceptible to gambling and experimenting in life. This is why it is important for you to introduce the topic and try to help you understand the concern.

Make a List of Relevant Point You Need to Mention

You won’t have to cover all the important things in one conversation. You can repeat yourself every now and then, and add some additional facts that are important. For example, don’t forget to explain to your child the difference between sport and gambling/betting. Also, make sure that your child understands the difference between gambling and gaming.

Set an Example

Nothing works better than being a role model for your children. If you practice what you preach your children will probably have a better response to the whole gambling topic. You will send a subconscious message to your children with your own behavior, so prepare to be a good role model.
